My Bookshelf - Man's Search For Meaning

Self Isolation can be a time for personal growth and reading can be very helpful in this process. In the next few blogs I will be suggesting some of my favorite books that I've read in the past year or so. Some books have lessons that are relevant to the situation we are facing, and others are just fun - because we need to escape from the day-today realities sometimes!

My first book suggestion is Man's Search For Meaning by Viktor E. Frankl. This is a real-life account of how Viktor Frankl survived the Nazi Concentration Camps. Despite losing everything, including his wife and parents, Viktor survives. Amazingly, he doesn't allow his experiences to make him bitter - instead he focuses on the meaning of his experience and how it can be used to make life better.

Favorite Quotes:

  • "Forces beyond your control can take away everything you possess except one thing, your freedom to respond to the situation."

  • "“Dostoevski said once, "There is only one thing I dread: not to be worthy of my sufferings."

This quote reminds me to be take as much positive as I can from our current situation because if I choose not to then any suffering I experience will have been for nothing.
